Self-ArtContest won by Asmita

With her work "Balancing My Self" has Asmita Duranjaya won the public voting of the art contest of the Kelly Yap Gallery in Second Life surrounding the topic and the philosophical question "What is the Self?":
"Asmita Duranjaya is the winner of popular vote for the Self Contest at Kelly Yap Newcomers and Friends Gallery. Her winning work is titled "Balancing My Self". Asmita has received a two month gallery space at Kelly Yap Newcomers and Friends Gallery and 1000L!"
The consciousness for a Self is of specific interest for persons, who live in two worlds, in the physical-material Real Life as a human and in virtual worlds like Second life and others as an artificial person, called avatar. The creation and the relationship with this double-self leads to interesting perspectives and increases the sensitivity for questions concerning the identity and the construction of the mental condition of a being. Asmita has expressed with her 3D-installation, how the avatar-self can act as a balance for the real life-self. The artwork is created with animation, sound and several scripts and layers, using the possibilities of the virtual world, which are not available in the non virtual.
The artist, who organises many contests herself, is glad to get a sign of acceptance with this result and will use the occasion to show her work in December and January in the gallery of Kelly Yap, the initiator and gallery owner at YAP-Land.

Art Contest eMotion in the new KBCC

Oktober 2010 um 1pm SLT, was 22:00 Uhr MEZ entspricht. See you there!

Who wouldn't remember the Berlin City Center, shortly BCC? Since some time we were missing the huge mall, created by Hanni Fride, last but not least because of its art exhibitions. On a two-months-basis gridwide known artists could show their work in the past, like the Australian Juanita Deharo, Scottius Polke from texas, the Californian Kolor Fall, the Boston based artist RAG Randt, Trill Zapatero from Canada and Kirle Adamski from Denmark and many more. Hanni Fride and his crew, Teflon Woodget, Fantasia Enzo and the art curator Asmita Duranjaya, have not disappeared from the screen, but there is a completely new sim group in process with the name Berlin Mitte, Berlin Capital City and Berlin Capital under the ownership of Hanni Fride himself. The initial opening event will be an art contest with the topic "eMotion". Until now 17 breathtaking entries have been submitted by more or less well known artists in SL, who are mostly also RL artists. We can expect a very interesting art exhibition in the newly founded Kunsthalle Berlin Capitel City (KBCC), because the topic provides a wide range of ideas. The opening event will take place on the 31st of October 2010 at 1pm SLT and all art recent and future art lovers are cordially invited, at last also to vote for their favourite eMotion artwork. The address is: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Berlin%20Capital%20City/223/121/27. See you there!

A Retro Subculture in Second Life: SteamPunk

Most Avis in Second Life have already visited one of the fabulous SteamPunk sims like Nemo, Babbage Canals or Port Babbage e.g. What is behind this virtual subculture, is it virtual only or do there exist forms of expression in RL too? How has it developed and what are the main features? All these questions are more or less answered in a sophisticated web article with tons of multimedia at this page: http://www.kuveni.de/steampunk/steampunk.htm. The focus of the author Martina Claus-Bachmann, who has a PHD, doing research in cultural studies, is mainly on the music of SteamPunk. It shows at last also on how to use Second Life as a possibility for field research. Recommended!

Living in My Computer ... ?

Asmita invites all her friends, art lovers and colleagues to visit her new installation "Living in My Computer". She explains the title: "My mainboard had crashed and I tried to find a new one with the same features, because I loved my old one; it has supported my work for so many years and was reliable and comfortable; it is hard to replace it. So I decided to create a memorial for my mainboard and scanned it. All the pictures and objects you will find in my installation are modifications of that scan". The end result was a kind of surreal art workshop with a lounge, a dancefloor, cuddle corners and many small other things to discover. DJane Delfin will spin Trance, Sofa and Soma Space and everybody can come, talk, relax and dance. The event takes place on the 24th of October at 1pm SLT and the installation will last for 2 months. See you there!

eMotion

5. Jeder Teilnehmer darf ein Kunstwerk einsenden an Asmita Duranjaya mod, cop, no trans.6.
10. Stichtag für die Abgabe ist der 30. Oktober 3pm SLT.
Viel Spaß und Glück wünscht Euch Asmita

Dear friends and artist colleagues,I am pleased to announce a new art contest. Hanni Fride and Fantazia Enzo have worked for months to build a sim compound including a new gallery, called "Berliner Kunsthalle". It is my honour to curate there changing exhibitions and I would like to start with an art contest on the topic "eMotion". This has two meanings, "electronic motion" and "emotion" in the sense of "moving the mind". Both together should be a guarantee for an attractive artwork. Gallery opening and winner announcement are planned for the 31st of October at 1pm SLT. You have one month to create a new artwork and here are the rules:1. The artwork has to be new and created exclusively for this specific contest.2. The topic is "eMotion" in the above mentioned sense.3. Something has to "move" in the artwork, either animations, particles or through scripts. Flat pictures without movement are not accepted.4. You can use up to 25 prims.5. One piece per participant!6. As usual in my contests there will be a public and a jury panel voting.7. Send your work with mod, cop, no trans to Asmita Duranjaya. Deadline is the 30th of October 2010 3pm SLT.8. The exhibition remains in the gallery for 2 months and every artist can try to sell his piece with a commission of 25%.9. The 1st winner will get 3000, the 2nd 2000 and the 3rd 1000 L$ and every participant will receive a little something.10. The place is still not available to show an example there, but I have build one with 11 prims on my land: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sedona%20Island/11/215/668. It shows the average size and my imagination of the topic.A lot of fun and good luck!Asmita
